What is Information Management and why is it so important
Information management embraces all the generic concepts of data management, In many ways it's quite simple, when looking at a data problem - and most IT problems are in-part data problems - it's about answering a number of straightforward questions about the data involved:
- What is it?
- Who makes decisions about it? - the owners
- What is the quality of the data (for what we need it for)
- Who's allowed to see it ? Who's allowed to change it?
- How is it stored and technically managed
- More broadly, how do we integrate it
- How do we use it to make better decisions, right up to real time.
Fundamental aspects of nearly all IT implementations, but few of them are directly technology related.
Yet these are regularly overlooked with a focus on the technology side of IT
This site aims to provide a rebalanced view of Information entwined with IT. It will love the technology, but bring the information that will make it sing.
The universal aspects of data management are described in some detail at the following link
